A mellow and reflective way to mark the close of the "new" Americans big day...I hope that Tess appreciates that I've chosen a Swedish concert version (for me, and for other reasons, this song will always mean Gibraltar).

I love Bruce Sprinsteen.
Haven't always though. I remember my mum used to listen to him a lot when I was younger, and I didn't like him at all. Don't think I even bothered to listen to him to be honest. I just disliked him cause she liked him. Weird I know. Young and dumb I guess.
But since a few years back I have started to really love and appreciate his music.
He's one of the greatest, no doubt about it.
Wanted to go to one of his shows when he played in stockholm in june, but the tickets sold out right after they were released. So I never got a chance to get any. A friend of mine went to two of the shows though and he said that it was truly amazing.
This song is really beautiful.
And I did indeed appriciate that you chose a clip from sweden

Min välbehag!
I think that he stopped writing great music a few years ago (the same thing as happened to Paul McCartney) but like Paul, his catalogue by then was so great that it doesn't really matter...and anyway, this is one of my favourites of his. Not my absolute favourite though - that would either be everything off of the "Born to Run" album or "Racing in the Street" from "Darkness on the Edge of Town" I think. I LOVE a song with a story!

Except for "Thunder Road" and the Cover track, I haven't heard the rest of the songs from his Born to Run album. I will now!
I've loved his music and I remember singing "Dancing in the dark" in front of a huge gathering in high school. I've noticed that some of his songs are so soft and mellow that make you think like.."Is he really singing!" ...but you can never miss the fact that he's singing with his heart. Take "Streets of Philadelphia" as an example. For me its' a song that's poignantly written and performed.

I especially like the album "Born to Run" because I remember when it came out. He had released one album before but it didn't get a lot of attention (and wasn't that great) but BTR was so different to the other music at the time and so polished that it was a revelation.
If you like story songs try "Jungleland" and "Meeting Across the River". They have a majesterial sweep about them.
"Dancing in the Dark" is good pop but has no real depth for me. "Streets..." however will always be associated with the film for which he wrote it - a bit passe now but considered ground breaking (it tackled AIDS) at the time.
I hope that you enjoy discovering BTR!-

I'm listening to it right now,
"...Hey, Eddie, can you lend me a few bucks
And tonight can you get us a ride
Gotta make it through the tunnel
Got a meeting with a man on the other side."
...and I'm loving it, thanks!

Gave me goose bumps. I'm playing Bruce Springsteen right now from my Rhapsody Channel. I had forgotten all about him. Thanks for ringing that bell up here in the dusty belfry: All good happenings for you, friend: JW
